documenta 16: 100 days, Kassel
12 Jun – 19 Sep 2027 · Biennale · Kassel, DE
The five-yearly 100-day exhibition returns to Kassel. Naomi Beckwith — Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Guggenheim New York, and the first Black woman to lead documenta — is artistic director, working with Carla Acevedo-Yates, Romi Crawford, Mayra A. Rodríguez Castro and Xiaoyu Weng on 'artistic practices that provide us with tools to think together about possible futures'.
Highlights
- Every five years, 100 days — the most consequential recurring exhibition in contemporary art
- Overlaps almost exactly with Skulptur Projekte Münster, which runs only once a decade
- Art Basel (17–20 Jun, ~4h by train) falls inside the same window
- Kassel has limited hotel stock for a city hosting 800,000+ visitors — book absurdly early
